Gift of Vampirism
Leather Neck Corset, 2021
- Project Type: Apparel
- Programs: Procreate, Illustrator
These pieces were made by laser engraving illustrations onto leather panels, giving them shape through wet molding, hand-stitching them together, burnishing the edges, and adding finishing hardware.
The project is inspired by my fascination with vampires as a metaphor for queer empowerment.
The central panel illustrates a queer vampiric creation story where two trans individuals share fruit gifted to them from a bat. The two panels beside it show a human skull and a bat skull, opened with light radiating from inside them. The back panels depict the individuals from the front, now transformed with large bat wings, lying peacefully in the grass using their wings to shield themselves from the sun.
